April Ross

April Ross has won more than one Olympic medal. She is among only a handful of women beach volleyball athletes who have done so. Alix-Klineman will compete with April Ross Tokyo for her third gold medal over the coming days. Ross is hoping to secure her Olympic first gold medal, however, she also hopes for more. At 39 she could have her last shot. She is still confident but she is not sure. If we do our highest or perform well, I think we'll be able to win that gold medal Ross said via NBC Boston. "I'm trying to also try some luck." Ross was born in the city of Costa Mesa, California in the year 1982. Her parents as well as her sister resided there. Ross played in numerous sports while attending Newport Harbor High School. In her time as a college athlete she played indoor volleyball and track. When she played in the final sport, she clearly stood out. As a college volleyball season in her university profile, she played as an outside-hitter, middle blocker and setter. As a tribute to her efforts, she received the Gatorade Award for National Player in 1999. In 2000, she was awarded the Orange County Athlete of the year award for volleyball. Ross is playing with Klineman since 2017. However, Ross's beach game was well-established long before the year. As a matter of fact Ross has won a number of significant tournaments during her time along with her two teammates. One is a volleyball legend. Ross teamed up with Jennifer Kessy from 2007-2013, and she also served as Klineman's trainer. Together with Kessy Ross was awarded the World Championship in 2009, while racing in the international circuit. They went into winning a silver in the 2012 Olympic Games at London. Misty May, Kerri Walsh and Kerri Jennings were the trio to beat out for gold. Ross Jennings was May-Treanor's replacement when she retired. Together, they took home bronze medals in beach volleyball for the Rio Olympics in the year 2016. Ross began her college career with the USC Trojans in her high school days. This was years before Ross went to the beach and became a professional. Ross's playing time with the Trojans was amazing. In 2000, she was named Pac-10 Freshman of the Year and NCAA Freshman of the Year, and was also an All-American. She also helped the Trojans to make it to into the Final Four. Her sophomore year was the time she suffered a tremendous personal setback, but she was able to make it back as an All-American. The two years following her she led the Trojans to the top of the mountain and took home consecutive national championships. As an individual, she cemented her place in the history books by winning the Honda Sports Award for 2003-04. This award was given to the top female college volleyball players in the nation. Ross was a student of International Relations at USC. Margie Ross did not see her daughter reach the top in beach volleyball. As of 2001, when Ross was in her sophomore year in USC her mother passed away from breast cancer. She continues to hold her lost parent near and close. Margie remains a constant source of inspiration to her at and off the beaches.
