Lee Roy Selmon's life is one of football scholarships, family involvement as well as community involvement. The first line of his family was that his father was the youngest of nine kids who were raised within Eufala with Lucious Selmon. In football, he played with three of his brothers in Oklahoma. All three were All-Americans. Lucious Jr. Dewey, Lee Roy, and Lucious Jr. Dewey started the 1973 season. Lee Roy won the Outland and Lombardi Awards as the nation's top lineman. For three seasons as a starter Oklahoma went 32- 1-1 and also won two championships at the national level. The third scholarship was awarded to him. He was an National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete in 1975. Selmon received a diploma as an educator. Lee Roy was involved in volunteer work ten hour per week throughout his college years. After college, he moved into Tampa and played nine years with Tampa's Buccaneers. He was an All-Pro 3 times. Then he started his career. He was hired in 1988 as an Account Relation Officer for Tampa's First Florida Bank. He was also a part of the following groups: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. No wonder that in 1982 the Junior Chamber of Commerce named Lee Roy as one of America's most outstanding young men. Lee Roy weighed 256 lbs and was a tall of 7-foot-2. In his time at college, he was the captain of the team of 1975. In 1993, he became the associate director of Athletics at the University of South Florida. He was named to the College Football Hall of Fame by his fellow members of the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994, as well as the Pro Football Hall of Fame of 1995. In 1989 the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation awarded their Distinguished American Award, to Mr. Lucious Selmon and his wife. Henry Bellmon was the Oklahoma Governor, who awarded this award.
